Capturing Christmas Elegance:

Filming Zoe Barnett in Chelsea

When rising classical guitar star Zoe Barnett approached me to create a music video for her arrangement of White Christmas, I knew the visuals had to match the intricacy of her playing. Filmed on location in the historic heart of Chelsea, London, this project blends festive warmth with high-end cinematic performance capture.

The Artist: Zoe Barnett

Zoe Barnett is not your traditional classical guitarist. Known for her dynamic standing performances and a massive online following (88k+ on Instagram), she is reshaping how the instrument is perceived. A Royal College of Music scholar, Zoe combines technical mastery with a modern, accessible style.

For this project, our goal was to strip away the 'stiff' concert hall stereotype and present her in an environment that felt intimate, luxurious, and seasonally appropriate.

The location: Chelsea

Chelsea offers some of London's most visually rich filming locations, from the grand townhouses of King's Road to hidden Victorian interiors. For White Christmas, we decided to go to Sloane Square and the gorgeous christmas tree that was on the square.

We opted for a morning shoot to avoid the crowd but also benefit from a low light sun that would make the christmas light shine in the background and give a dreamy, wintery vibe to the whole video.

Production Breakdown: The Cinematic Look

To give the video a 'premium' feel that separates it from standard YouTube covers, we utilised a specific lighting and camera package:

  • Visual Style: We aimed for a cold grade, that emphasise gold, green red tones to evoke the holidays.

  • Camera Movement: Using a gimbal to create smooth, cinematic movements.

  • Audio Sync: While the track was pre-recorded to ensure studio-quality sound, we captured reference audio on location to ensure perfect synchronisation during the edit.
